About Me

I was born in 1971 in Seoul, S. Korea, and immigrated to the U.S. in 1978. I obtained my BFA degree in Illustration from the Laguna College of Art & Design in 1995. After working for a few years in the marketing department of a large corporation, I entered the MFA Illustration program at the School of Visual Arts in New York City, and earned my MFA degree in 1999. I came back out to California soon after graduation and started pursuing a career in painting and graphic design.

I’ve exhibited my work all over Southern California and have worked as a graphic designer and art director for over 20 years, most of that time for the design firm JDA Inc in Long Beach. In early 2020, I went freelance with my graphic design work to devote more time to my fine art projects, and in the fall of 2022 I became part of the adjunct faculty at Irvine Valley College, in the Digital Media Art Dept, adding teaching to my list of pursuits. In the fall of 2023 I started teaching graphic design at Long Beach City College as well.

I’ve called Long Beach my home now for over 12 years, and have the pleasure of being a part of the tight-knit art community here. I share a studio with several other artists at 3232 E. Willow St, Signal Hill, CA 90755 and participate in the Long Beach Open Studio Tour every year. Contact me to schedule a visit any time.
