A couple of new paintings (finally!) for fall. I’ve always admired the work of Franz Kline and I tried to capture some of that boldness and graphic impact while inserting elements that I’ve developed with the TAMA series. The series of arcs slicing through the larger fields remind me of orbits and trajectories, representing how events and lives intersect in unexpected ways all the time. Someone told me that these paintings remind them of looking out a car windshield on a rainy day, with shapes reminiscent of cars, buildings, and trees. I’m curious to know what else people see?
I like these bold blocks of black and white with the red arcs. I think of a winter-y scene of tree trunks and snow.
